MASSAGE THERAPY

Back by popular demand! We are so excited to announce that Beverly Kennedy is now offering sports/athletic massage along with Swedish and Deep Tissue on Saturdays by appointment!

This specialized form of massage therapy is a clothes-on, product free bodywork treatment designed to address the needs of athletes and active individuals. With a focus on muscles and soft tissues often overworked during physical activity, sports massage can help with injury prevention, recovery, and performance enhancement. .Sessions are 30 or 60 minutes.

Benefits:

  1. Improves Flexibility and Range of Motion: By targeting tight muscles and fascia, sports massage helps improve flexibility, which can enhance athletic performance.
  2. Reduces Muscle Tension: This type of massage can help to release tension in muscles that have become tight or stiff due to intense training, competition, or poor posture.
  3. Promotes Faster Recovery: Sports massage helps increase blood circulation to muscles, which speeds up the removal of metabolic waste products (such as lactic acid) and brings fresh oxygen and nutrients to the muscles to aid in recovery.
  4. Reduces the Risk of Injury: By increasing flexibility and blood flow while also alleviating muscle tightness, sports massage can reduce the likelihood of muscle strains, ligament sprains, and other injuries.
  5. Enhances Performance: Regular sports massage can improve muscle function, coordination, and overall performance, especially when used as part of an athlete’s training regimen.
  6. Decreases Pain and Inflammation: Sports massage can help manage pain from overuse or minor injuries, and it can also reduce inflammation caused by muscle stress.
  7. Mental Relaxation: While it is physically focused, sports massage can also have psychological benefits, helping athletes relax, manage stress, and mentally prepare for competitions or training.

This therapeutic technique targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Often used to address chronic muscle pain, stiffness, or injury recovery. This type of massage involves more pressure compared to other types of massage, such as Swedish massage. The massage works to release tension, break up muscle knots, and improve circulation. Deep tissue massage can be intense, and while some discomfort is normal, it shouldn’t be unbearably painful. Always communicate with your therapist if the pressure is too much. After a deep tissue massage, some people experience soreness or bruising for a day or two, which is like the feeling after a tough workout. Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes.

Benefits

  • Relieves Chronic Pain: Especially helpful for conditions like lower back pain, neck pain, and shoulder tension.
  • Increases Range of Motion: By loosening tight muscles and improving flexibility.
  • Reduces Muscle Tension and Stiffness: Great for athletes or those with physically demanding jobs.
  • Improves Posture: Regular sessions can help relieve strain from bad posture or repetitive movements.
  • Speeds up Injury Recovery: By enhancing blood flow, the massage can help reduce inflammation and promote healing.

This therapeutic massage is often used to relax the entire body, improve circulation, and promote overall well-being. Swedish massage is generally considered gentle, making it ideal for those new to massage therapy or seeking a more relaxed experience compared to deeper, more intense types like deep tissue massage. This involves long, flowing strokes, kneading on the topmost layer of muscles to relieve tension and improve circulation and deep, circular motions aimed at breaking down adhesions and improving muscle flexibility. Swedish technique can also incorporate rhythmic tapping or percussion movements and gentle shaking or rocking motions to promote relaxation and release muscle tension. Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes.

Benefits:

  • Relaxation: Helps reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Improved circulation: The long strokes and pressure can increase blood flow to muscles and tissues.
  • Pain relief: It can help alleviate muscle soreness and tension.
  • Flexibility: Regular Swedish massage can increase joint flexibility by loosening tight muscles.
  • Improved sleep: By lowering stress levels, Swedish massage can promote better sleep.
